We aim to produce globally-minded individuals with a systematic knowledge of resources, from resource generation through exploration and development
Our faculty offers resource science education integrating engineering and humanities fields, with the goal of solving global issues related to metals and non-metals, oil and natural gas. The sciences/engineering field covers everything from the mechanisms of resource generation, exploration and development, through to recycling and environmental conservation. In the social sciences/humanities field, students address a range of resource policy issues and study mineral economics, law and international affairs surrounding resources. Our purpose is to foster resource specialists to play key roles in world-wide resource strategies, pursuing cutting-edge studies and research.
We need to take a comprehensive approach to tackle complex resource-related challenges facing the world, from both technological and social perspectives. Our faculty welcomes students from across the globe to give them world-leading education, ranging over earth resource science, resource engineering and resource policy and management.
Our faculty emphasizes:
The world urgently needs resource engineers with advanced skills to work out multiple problems related to metals and energy, such as rare metals, oil and natural gas.
Our Faculty provides an interdisciplinary curriculum ranging across sciences/engineering and social sciences/humanities fields. In the Department of Earth Resource Science and the Department of Earth Resource Engineering and Environmental Science, students address many technological issues existing at the forefront of resource exploration and development, collaborating with external resource fields, relevant companies and research institutions in Japan and abroad. The Department of Resource Policy and Management covers mineral economics and international situations surrounding resources, aiming to nurture resource experts who can lead resource policy formulation in the global arena.
We offer leading-edge education with collaborations with domestic and international research institutions and resource companies, to prepare students to work internationally for the exploration and development of metals and energy resources. Students will gain basic English language skills through an intensive English program during the first year and the first half of the second year, which will equip them for specialized courses taught entirely in English from the second year. In the specialized courses, students learn advanced resource sciences with access to the latest research conducted inside and outside Japan. In the second half of the third year, all students are required to complete a fieldwork program abroad, to study the actual state of resources at the frontlines. This hands-on experience will prepare students for an independent graduation research project that they undertake in the final year.
In this age of resource nationalism, we are committed to produce globally-minded resource specialists by giving students from all over the world study opportunities. In addition, by building an extensive network of domestic and international contacts and publishing research findings widely, we operate as a center of resource science education.
