On Thursday, March 26, 2026, Chairman Harumafuji D.Byambadorj, former Yokozuna and Chairman of Shine Mongol Harumafuji School, paid a courtesy visit to Akita University. Accompanying him from the school was Ms. Yuko Yamamoto, Head of the Japan Office. Representing Akita University were President Yoshihiro Minamiya and Executive Director Takeshi Gotoh, who is responsible for education, international affairs, and information.

At the outset of the visit, President Minamiya extended a warm welcome to Chairman Harumafuji and his delegation. In response, Chairman Harumafuji expressed his sincere appreciation for Akita University’s continued support for Mongolia. The meeting was followed by a luncheon, during which the participants engaged in friendly and meaningful conversation in a relaxed atmosphere.

Following the courtesy visit, Chairman Harumafuji and his delegation met separately with faculty members from the Graduate School of Engineering Science and the Graduate School of International Resource Sciences, both of which welcome international students from Mongolia. They also met with current Akita University students from Mongolia, including graduates of Shine Mongol Harumafuji School.

It is hoped that this visit will further strengthen cooperation between Japan and Mongolia and lead to even more active educational and research exchange in the future.
