Join us for the Kanto Festival, one of the most popular summer festivals in Akita!

The Akita Kanto Festival, held annually from August 3 to August 6, is one of the three major festivals in the Tohoku region and has been designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property by the Japanese government. It has a long history as an event to ward off bad luck and pray for a good harvest. The sight of 280 lanterns filling the festival's main street is spectacular. Why don't you dress up in a hanten (Kanto Festival costume) and join the performers to make the Kanto Festival more exciting? Farm Activity and Local Exchange Tour in Yokote
(for International Students of Akita University)

This event aims to deepen the understanding of Akita's local culture through agricultural experiences in the Yokote area and exchange activities with local school students. In the 2024 fiscal year, agricultural experiences included visits to and hands-on activities at a soba processing facility. Additionally, community engagement activities were held, such as introduction games and soba-making experiences with elementary and middle/high school students from Yokote City, as well as presentations about the international students' home countries. These activities were very well received and provided international students with valuable opportunities to deepen their understanding of Akita’s regional culture.
